AwardsLone Eagle AwardThe Lone Eagle award is an honor presented annually to an active and a retired North Dakota Peace Officer, each of whom, in the eyes of their comrades, has contributed guidance, inspiration, and support throughout his career as a law enforcement official in the State of North Dakota. Retired FBI agent Herb Eckenroth, who worked in North Dakota for many years, created this award in 1979 to recognize a North Dakota Peace Officer who “…has shown incorruptible soundness or moral character and faithful adherence to ethical principles.” The Lone Eagle Award is presented to a current law enforcement officer and a retired law enforcement officer each year. Nominations are accepted until July 1st of each calendar year. The award is presented to a North Dakota peace officer based upon the officer’s outstanding service, professional dignity, and unselfish personal contributions to the citizens of North Dakota. The award serves as recognition of those officers who display a consistent mark of excellence within their profession. Qualifications:
Nomination Process:
All nominations shall be received by the Awards Committee no later than July 1, in order to be considered for the award. The North Dakota Peace Officers Association Executive Board shall serve as the award selection committee, for this award. The ND Peace Officer of the Year Award will be presented during the North Dakota Peace Officers Association’s Annual Conference. Law Enforcement officers and individual citizens who distinguish themselves with the act of exemplary performance, service, or achievement are eligible to receive recognition from the NDPOA through the NDPOA’s award process. Each nomination is reviewed by the Executive Board and a decision is made if the nominee shall receive the award. The board encourages all NDPOA members and Non-members to submit nominations for NDPOA awards when they are witnesses to outstanding acts of service. The NDPOA will do everything possible to recognize individual efforts. Law Enforcement AwardsLife Saving Award A law enforcement officer that by his/her actions significantly contributes to the saving of a human life. Recognition of Performance AwardA law enforcement officer who shows true friendliness to civilians while performing duties. This officer is dedicated to service and goes above and beyond the line of duty in everyday situations. Exceptional Performance AwardA law enforcement officer who handles or is confronted with an emergency situation and hadles it in a professional manner. Outstanding Service AwardThis award is bestowed upon a law enforcement officer upon retirement. The office must have at least twenty years of service in law enforcement and retire in good standing. Distinguished Service AwardA law enforcement officer who displays outstanding service, professional dignity and unselfish personal contributions to the NDPOA. Bravery AwardA law enforcement officer who performs an act of bravery while in the line of duty. The act is beyond the normal expectations and must put the officer at risk to loss of life or serious injury. Merit AwardThis award is bestowed upon a law enforcement officer that sustained significant injury while performing with law enforcement duties. Community AwardsCertificate of AppreciationThis award is given to an individual or company showing appreciation of support and cooperation with law enforcement or the NDPOA. Distinguished Service AwardAn individual citizen or a company that displays outstanding service, professional dignity and unselfish personal contributions to the NDPOA. Life Saving AwardAn individual citizen that by his/her actions significantly contributes to the saving of a human life. Citizen Recognition AwardAn individual citizen who assists law enforcement in accomplishing that organization’s mission and goals. Good Samaritan AwardAn individual citizen must perform an act of unselfishness in caring for another person, by giving aid to a person who is injured, sick or in distress. |
